American Girl Unveils Conversation Series to Amplify Diverse Voices

"Conversations for Change" will highlight various female trailblazers who share unique stories and perspectives to foster empathy, equality, and respect.

American Girl launched a new resource for families on its website called "Conversations for Change," which aims to amplify and celebrate diverse voices. The digital platform will highlight female trailblazers who share their unique stories and perspectives to foster empathy, equality, and respect, while inspiring others to do the same.

“For 35 years, American Girl has created timeless stories and diverse characters who show girls how to change the world with courage, resilience, and kindness”, said Jamie Cygielman, general manager of American Girl. “Through this new platform, we’re excited to give real girls the opportunity to share how their stories—and actions—are sparking meaningful conversations and positive change. We hope these stories inspire others to get involved and make a difference.”

The first episode, "4 Generations of Black Voices," features Marley Dias, a youth activist and author; Paris Williams, of Paris Cares Foundation, and her mom, educator Alice Marshall; and writer and American Girl author Denise Lewis Patrick. Each of these advocates for change are working to ensure Black stories and voices are heard, valued, and seen.

In support of this cause, American Girl has made its stories written by Black women and featuring Black heroines available for download on its free online library. In addition, American Girl has raised $500,000 in these and other titles to schools and libraries across the United States.

Other topics that "Conversations for Change" will touch on throughout 2021 include:

  • Climate Change: Several young girls who are taking big steps to help climate change will be spotlighted during this series. They'll teach us how to make environmental changes at home, how to understand how climate change impacts marginalized communities, and so more.
