WHERE: Queens Botanical Garden, 43-50 Main St., Flushing, NY

Take part in multi-cultural celebrations and discover the best of December with free live musical performances, a tree lighting, menorah display, selfies with Santa (donations welcome), holiday crafts, a tree tour, and storytime. Indulge in holiday shopping with sales at the QBG Store and support local businesses at the outdoor Holiday Market! Enjoy a selection of beverages at the Holiday Bar for purchase. On Saturday, December 3, watch an ice sculpture in the making and on Sunday, December 4, see its final form on display!
Tip: Dress for the weather! This event is mainly outdoors on the covered Terrace at the Visitor & Administration Building, Wedding Garden Plaza, Oak Allee, and Entrance Plaza. $15 event parking rate is in effect on this day. Registration encouraged; walk-ins welcome.

Hands On History: Winter Landscapes!

Winter is upon us and it’s a great time to explore one of the favorite pastimes of 19th century people — landscape painting! There are many landscapes on King Manor’s walls, and while some made it their living, others made it a hobby. Paint a winter scene of Rufus King Park with  and bring it home to keep for yourself or give as a gift! Hands on History is a FREE family program series held each first Saturday of the month at King Manor from 1-4pm.

Holiday Festival & Tree Lighting Celebration FREE

Come out for the 10th Annual "Holiday Festival & Tree Lighting Celebration" at the beautiful Astoria Park. The festivities begin at 3 PM followed by the community holiday tree lighting at dusk. Songs for Barry Harris with NEA Jazz Master Sheila Jordan, Harvie S, and Roni Ben-Hur

Sheila Jordan, Harvie S and Roni Ben-Hur will be performing a special tribute to to the late great Barry Harris at Flushing Town Hall. In this special program the band will perform jazz standards and many tunes that Barry Harris played in his phenomenal career as a Jazz legend. Sheila Jordan grew up in Detroit and knew Barry as a teenager and she will share stories and memories as no one can. They remained good friends until the end of his fruitful life. Roni Ben-Hur started out as a student of Barry and ended up playing in his band and recorded some classic albums with him. Harvie S over the years played with Barry and taught with him in summer programs at Manhattan School. This will be a moving tribute to one of the most important masters in Jazz.

Illegal: A New Musical (Staged Concert Reading) FREE

Written by Skyler Chin, and co-composed by Sita Sunil, Illegal is a historical fiction musical about some of America's first "illegal" immigrants—think "Hamilton" meets Bruce Lee. Inspired by the 1923 detainment and interrogation of Skyler’s grandfather on Angel Island, Illegal confronts the history of anti-Asian prejudice that Skyler’s ancestors experienced during the Chinese Exclusion era and that many still face a century later. The show's bold, irreverent characters and upbeat, comedic moments honor the fighting spirit of those who persevered and allowed future Americans to proudly tell their stories. Illegal was named a Semi-Finalist for the prestigious 2022 National Music Theater Conference at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center.
