Storefront Science opened in Manhattan on Jan. 9, providing children with an engaging space for science inquiry and exploration. It challenges kids to connect science to everyday life by questioning the world around them and triggering their critical thinking skills.

Storefront Science incorporates the whole family into the world of science by offering classes to children as young as 3 with the Early Explorers Club and continues through middle school with the Inventors Club. To include parents in the process, Storefront Science also offers a Parent’s Night, when parents can learn about ways to engage their children in science at home.

Dr. Leonisa Ardizzone, Storefront Science’s president, tells kids: “Always be curious and never stop asking questions.” It’s important to let kids get hands-on experience, she adds. In addition to classes, Storefront Science also offers Open Exploration, a time when families can learn about science firsthand at different exploratory stations.

Three levels of yearly membership are available: Xenon, Krypton, and Argon—named after the noble gases—with prices ranging from $175-$500. Open Exploration is also offered without membership at $10 per visit. Membership includes discounts on classes, waived registration fees, Open Exploration passes, bring-a-friend passes, and other bonuses.

“We value wonder and curiosity,” Dr. Ardizzone says. “We are a nontraditional place where kids can come to learn and love science.”
