The polar region has come to the Upper West Side, bringing a new option for ice-skating. After 149 years, the American Museum of Natural History has opened its outdoor, 150 x 80-foot Polar Rink. Visitors skate around a 17-foot-tall stainless steel polar bear decorated with twinkling lights and pine boughs, and learn facts about bears and the Earth’s polar regions. Located on the Arthur Ross Terrace, the rink features views of the museum’s Rose Center for Earth and Space and Theodore Roosevelt Park. Open through February 28, 12-8pm Sunday-Thursday; 11am-11pm Fridays, Saturdays and holidays. $10, $9 students and seniors, $8 ages 3-12; price includes skate rental and a 45-minute skating session. The American Museum of Natural History, Weston Entrance at Columbus Avenue and 79th Street, Manhattan. 212-769-5200. www.amnh.org.
