Venue Description: Grand Central Terminal is one of New York's most famous landmarks. Filled with rushing daily commuters and awestruck New York visitors, it is perpetually buzzing with activity. It is a hub for many forms of public transportation, including the MTA Metro-North Railroad and the 4, 5, 6, 7, and S lines of the subway. But with 87 shops and various dining locations, Grand Central is much more than a place to catch a train.
Many visitors to New York stop by Grand Central solely to see the most widely recognizable train terminal room in the world. The four-faced brass clock, a famous rendezvous spot, stands atop the Main Concourse?s circular Information Booth. The most notable feature of the Main Concourse is the great astronomical mural on the ceiling, painted in gold leaf on cerulean blue oil. Arching over the 80,000-square-foot Main Concourse, it portrays the Mediterranean sky with October-to-March zodiac and 2,500 stars. Both sets of marble steps on the east and west sides of the building are modeled after the grand staircase of the Paris Opera House. The Whispering Gallery is located at the end of both Oyster Bar ramps and offers a phonic treat: One who whispers a secret into one of its corners can be distinctly heard diagonally across the gallery on the other side.
Grand Central Terminal opens at 5:30am and closes at 2am daily. For more information: 212-340-2583 or grandcentralterminal.com.
