Description: Halloween is fast approaching, but in some New York City communities, October 31 doesn't hold a candle next to Day of the Dead one day later. In collaboration with local artists and businesses, East Harlem children, family, and community leaders will spend all-day building a ceremonial altar commemorating those who have passed away in the past year. Evening events will include skits, dancing, and musical performances by Mariachi Real de Mexico and Folkloric Ballet Yavidaxui of Eric Olea; Inez Lario leading "sugar skull" workshops; and a Mexican feast featuring traditional foods.
