Description: The Table of Silence Project 9/11 is a multi-cultural prayer for peace realized through a transcendent ceremony for 100 dancers, swathed in white, that realizes the vision of choreographer Jacqulyn Buglisi and artist Rossella Vasta. The site-specific work is titled after Vasta's installation of 100 terracotta plates arranged around a symbolic banquet table uniting humanity. Buglisi transforms the concept into a moving meditation, a poetic call for tolerance and peace in our world.

The Table of Silence Project 9/11 had its first presentation on the tenth anniversary of 9/11, and was presented on the Josie Robertson Plaza at Lincoln Center. BDT partnered with The September Concert and Dance/NYC to be the voice of the NYC community of artists in all its diversity. Participating were both professional dancers and students from NYC's premier conservatories and studios: The Juilliard School, The Ailey School, National Dance Institute, the Martha Graham School, Steps on Broadway, and Peridance Ensemble, among others. This global tribute was broadcast via live stream and can be viewed at youtube.com/buglisidance.

Spectators may join the dancers in a ritualistic exercise: enveloped in silence for one minute, they turn their wrists with open palms and extend their arms slowly to the universe. With echoes of the flautist's act of taking breath, dancers rise and exit in a unified silence, creating a transcendent experience that gives voice to those who have lost their own.
